The Tremough Campus in Penryn is home to two university institutions: the Cornwall-based campus of the University of Exeter (UEC) and one of University College Falmouth’s (UCF), two campuses in Cornwall, the other being at Woodlane in Falmouth. It is also home to the world famous Camborne School of Mines. The joint campus is part of the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique partnership of UCF, UEC, the University of Plymouth and Further Education Colleges in Cornwall that has been very successful in gaining European Union funding to drive the economic regeneration of Cornwall through Further and Higher Education.
‘Tremough’ has an interesting Cornish identity; the name Tremough derives from the Cornish word for "pig farm".
The 70-acre site, with a history stretching back to the Stone Age, has seen a variety of uses. The historic Tremough House was built in the early 1700s by wealthy local merchant, John Worth. The house has changed hands numerous times in its history and has been both a private residence and an academy for young gentlemen. In 1943 Tremough became a convent school under the Filles de la Croix order. When the school closed in 1996 the estate was purchased by Falmouth College of Arts (now University College Falmouth), which built its media centre in 1999.
The campus is managed by a joint venture company owned by UCF and UCE. Tremough Campus Services (TCS) manages all the on campus facilities including catering, retail outlets, gym and the student accommodation known as Glasney Parc.

One of the campus' main buildings is a modern four-storey design with spectacular views over the town of Penryn and the surrounding countryside. Its teaching facilities include art, design and broadcasting studios and equipment; science laboratories; IT facilities; library and lecture and seminar rooms. Provision for students, and the general public, include: a gym offering free-weights, resistance weights and cardiovascular machinery in addition to dance classes and capoeira; a restaurant and two bars (Upper and Lower Stannary).
The joint students' union FXU serves the needs of both Falmouth and Exeter students.. FXU hosts Freshers' week and other special events throughout the year whilst acting as a liaison between students and voluntary activity in the local community.
The Peter Lanyon Building, officially opened by the Duke of Wessex in November 2007, forms part of the second phase of development at Tremough. It provides specialist facilities for UCF and UCE, including UCF’s new £7m state-of-the-art Photography Centre and Digital Animation Studio, together with enhanced media facilities, where new BA(Hons) degrees in Marine & Natural History Photography, Press Photography and Digital Animation are now offered for the first time. The University of Exeter has also recently launched Cornwall’s first Law degree as well as degree courses in History, Politics and the first undergraduate degree in Cornish Studies, all of which will be taught in the new building.
